Students Tackle Data at 2024 ASA DataFest

Participants at the 2024 ASA DataFest

From April 26-28, teams of undergraduate student competed at the 2024 American Statistical Association (ASA) DataFest hosted by the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science. Students worked around the clock with complex datasets assisted by graduate students, faculty and industry professionals to compete for prizes.

They were judged by a panel of judges for three prizes: Best Insight, Best Visualization and Best Use of Outside Data.

This year's winners are:

Best Insight: "VietCS" - Maya Le, Giang Luc, Ha Dang Vu, Nhat Quang Bui, Linh Tran

Best Visualization: "Data Dynamos" - Henry Zhang, Ziyu Wang, Kaili Lin, Yifan Cao, Xinhe Yu

Best Use of Outside Data: "Datacraft" - Salil (Krish) Khasnobish, Aahil Mukadam, Iman Zahra Khan, Shreshth Sharma

ASA DataFest was founded 2011 at UCLA, and today more than 2000 students take part at institutions across North America every year. Waterloo has been participating since 2017 (with the exception of 2020). Learn more about the ASA DataFest on their website.
