An artificial intelligence (AI) startup company with strong ties to Waterloo Engineering has cracked a list of the top 50 most important movers and shakers in the industry.
DarwinAI, which is based on technology invented by Waterloo Engineering professors Alexander Wong and Mohammad Javad Shafiee, made the Impact 50 list compiled by the inside BIGDATA website alongside companies including Intel, Google and Microsoft.
Based in Waterloo, DarwinAI dramatically reduces the size of deep neural networks while still maintaining accuracy. It also explains how AI networks make their decisions.
The company was also recently named as one of seven finalists in the Data and AI category of the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge, a worldwide competition for science and technology startups that will be contested in Paris in March.
