Beginning your graduate degree can be stressful for a variety of reasons—it's a time when you're meeting new people, adjusting to campus life, and for many of you, settling into a new city. Here are resources to support you as you're facing these transitions.
- Counselling Services
Counselling Services provides a secure, supportive environment for students of all orientations and backgrounds. Services include individual appointments, seminars (including pre-recorded sessions), group therapy and workshops and online resources. - Grad Student Community and Conversation Circle
This group offers a safe, confidential space to talk about stressors in graduate school and life, including relationships, wellness, worries about academic competence, loneliness, stress management and emotional resilience. - Athletics and Recreation
Warrior Athletics offers many ways for you to stay active, including shoe-tag classes, instructional classes, intramurals, clubs and the Healthy Warriors at Home program.
Visit the GSPA's graduate student wellness page for a comprehensive list of resources.
WELCOME WITH GSPA AND GSA WEBINAR
Join us May 3 for the Welcome with GSPA and GSA webinar. You'll hear the introduction from the Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA), the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Graduate Studies Endowment Fund (GSEF). This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions about what to expect in the first year of coursework and research in your graduate program.
HEALTH AND DENTAL PLAN
Full-time and part-time graduate students are automatically covered by the GSA Health & Dental Plan, including eligible international students. Health Plan allows you to access a variety of health professionals and receive coverage for prescription drugs, vaccinations, diagnostic services, and medical equipment. Your plan also extends to vision coverage, travel coverage, dental care, and a mental health and wellness support service, Empower Me.
Please note: During the change-of-coverage period at the beginning of the term, you'll have an opportunity to opt-out of the plan (if you’re already covered by an equivalent health plan) or enrol your spouse/dependent children. Graduate co-op students who wish to self-enrol may also do so during this period.
ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodations at the graduate level can be complex, but the accommodation consultants at AccessAbility Services will work with you, your instructors and others to ensure your accommodation plan is successfully implemented.
Register early for your accommodations by following these steps:
- Complete your online application and select that you are a graduate student.
- Once your supporting medical documentation has been reviewed, you will be invited to attend a Graduate Student Registration Appointment.
- Meet with your Accommodation Consultant to discuss your eligibility for accommodations during your graduate career.
