by Linh Mai, Technovation Coach

On Saturday, February 21st, Technovation Waterloo held its first in-person working session of the season at the University of Waterloo. Running from 10 AM to 3 PM, the session allowed participants to focus on researching and designing solutions for the problem they have chosen for their app.

The morning began with an introduction by Samantha Jewett, Women in Computer Science (WiCS) Outreach Coordinator and Technovation Waterloo Chapter Ambassador. Samantha led a review the project checklist, encompassing all the tasks for their project that

were discussed in the first five weeks of the program. This overview helped teams stay aligned and reminded them of the milestones they have accomplished.

Throughout the rest of the day, teams worked on various stages of their project. Some refined their selected community and customer research, while others continued identifying problems and creating clear problem statements. Most participants were on the stage of completing competitor research and selecting a tech-based solution. Overall, everyone worked hard and made excellent progress.

Volunteers, including mentors, coaches, and Technovation alumni, were a big help in supporting teams. They answered questions, gave feedback, and helped guide teams through any challenges they were facing. Their expertise and encouragement gave teams the confidence to work to the best of their abilities and move on to the next phases of their project.

By the end of the day, most teams were ready to start prototyping their apps for the following week.
