This
studio
explores
the
potentials
of
infilling
an
underused
park
found
adjacent
to
the
archeological
epicentre
in
Rome.
Palimpsest
This
project,
a
new
archeological
museum
in
Rome,
is
titled
"Palimpsest."
Echoing
the
scale
and
gesture
of
the
Temple
of
Claudius
foundation
defining
the
site
boundary,
a
new
supersized
plinth
becomes
both
building
and
landscape,
itself
geometrically
identifiable
and
harmonious
in
the
landscape
of
surrounding
Roman
monuments.
Seeking
to
reconcile
the
physical
and
social
tensions
inherent
in
creating
a
new
museum
in
the
eternal
city,
we
adopt
a
layered
"two-grounds"
approach
that
integrates
local
and
tourist
life
while
simultaneously
celebrating
the
historic
urban
build
up
of
the
site.
