I’m currently working on my PhD at the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms with Neil Gershenfeld, where I am trying to uncover the key technologies that will enable rapid scaling and broad interoperability in open source manufacturing.
In practice, I’m an Engineer / Designer of machines, software (embedded and otherwise), circuits, and networked systems.
So far, my work at the CBA includes modular machine hardware, an open source material testing machine, and two attempts to build modular software / embedded networked worlds, from which a third is emerging. I am always slowly approaching the completion of various end effectors, of course including the humble pen plotter, and I carry plans for a tool changer. A handful of machine-design-experiment carcasses follow me around, including the reich, mpvm, clay-stacker, one rascal and one mother.
Previously, I worked at Otherlab on advanced manufacturing, and with the C.H.A.O.S Lab at Princeton on green building technology. I was originally trained as an Architect at the University of Waterloo in Canada.
