Low Rough Aster , aster rude
Eurybia radula (Ait.) Nesom is native to fens, sphagnum bogs, lake and creek shores, edges of or openings in wet spruce or tamarack forests, open boggy woods, ± wet meadows, ditches in northeastern North America from James Bay in Ontario to Newfoundland south to West Virginia in the Appalachian Mts. (Brouillet 2006 FNA). The species is distinguished by it clonal habit, villosulus upper stems, and recurved leaf margins, heads with appressed ovate phyllaries, and pale blue-violet rays. The species is diploid (2n=18).
The species is rare in Ontario (Semple et al. 2002) and vulnerable in most of its range in the U.S. (Brouillet 2006 FNA).
