Doellingeria glaucescens (A. Gray) Semple, Brouillet and Allen is native to open coniferous woods, meadows, brushy slopes in the vicinity of Mt. Adams in Klickitat, Skamania, and Yakima Co., Washington (Allen 2006 FNA; Allen 2019). The species is distinguished by its glabrous and glaucous stems (40–160 cm tall), leaves, and phyllaries, linear to narrowly lance-elliptic leaves (4–10 cm long), and purple rays. The species has been treated as Aster engelmannii (D.C. Eaton) A. Gray var. glaucescens A. Gray, Eucephalus glaucescens (A. Gray) Greene, Aster glaucescens (A. Gray) S.F. Blake and Eucephalus serrulatus Greene. The species is diploid 2n=18. The species is of conservation concern.
