Eucephalus gormanii

Gorman's Aster

Eucephalus gormanii Piper is native to open rocky slopes and exposed cliffs in the Cascade Mts. of Oregon (Allen 2006 FNA).  The species is distinguished by its pilose or sparsely to moderately glandular-pubescent stems (10–40 cm tall), lanceolate-ovate phyllaries, and white rays. The species is diploid (2n=18).

Eucephalus gormanii is known only from the central Cascade Mountains. It is closely related to E. paucicapitatus (Allen 2006 FNA).

The species can hybridize (E. gormanii X E. ledophyllus) with E. ledophyllus.
