Pityopsis graminifolia (Michx.) Small var. tracyi (Small) Semple is the large headed race restricted to peninsula Florida. It has been treated as Pityopsis tracyi Small and P. nervosa var. tracyi (Small) D.B. Ward. The variety is hexaploid (2n=54). It blooms later than the other varieties and as late as February in South Florida. See Semple (2006 FNA).
