Chrysopsis godfreyi Semple is a rare species found on the barrier islands and coastal sand dunes along the western Florida Panhandle. it is named in honor of the late Robert K. Godfrey (FSU). Two very distinct forms occur together in many populations. The type location near Destin, Florida has probably been destroyed by the very large increase in human population since the type location was sampled in 1977. Large populations visited in the area in 1977 were all gone by 1999. The typical form has white wooly leaves, while f. viridis has green leaves mostly lacking long white hairs. The species is diploid with 2n=10. See Semple (2006 FNA).
