Oclemena reticulata

Southern Pinebarren Aster, Pinebarren Whitetop Aster

Oclemena reticulata (Pursh) G.L. Nesom is native to the outer coastal plain of the southeastern U.S. from South Carolina to Florida and southern Alabama.  The species is distinguished from others in the genus by having tall erect stems, leaves with undulate margins, and its late spring blooming. The species is diploid (2n=18).

Semple et al. (1991) incorrectly included the species in Aster sect. Triplopappus (= Doellingeria).
