Heterotheca sessiliflora var. camphorata (A. Eastwood) Semple is founded in the Coastal Range south of the San Francisco Peninsula.  It is similar to var. echioides but has sparsely-hairy, densely glandular leaves.  Intermediates between the two varieties occur in much of the range.  Its  lowest stem leaves are like those of var. echioides.  It was been treated as a separate species Heterotheca camphorata (Eastw.) Semple, until field work revealed the intermediates with var. echioides.  The line drawing on the var. echioides page includes some illustrations of var. camphorata.
