Award description:
Several GRADflix awards will be awarded annually to graduate students who presented their research in the GRADflix competition. Selection of the first, second, third and fourth place winners will be made by an adjudication panel. The people’s choice winner will be selected by the audience.
Value description:
Typically, five awards will be awarded annually. However, values may be revisited and determined on an annual basis as appropriate.
- One 1st place: $750
- One 2nd place: $500
- One 3rd place: $250
- One 4th place: $250
- Finalist's choice: $250

Eligibility & selection criteria:
Domestic and international graduate students registered in a master’s (thesis or MRP) or doctoral program who are presenting their research in the GRADflix competition at Waterloo. Students who completed their degree requirements but have not yet convocated, are eligible to participate.
- Selection of the first, second, third and fourth place winners will be made by an adjudication panel. The people’s choice award winner will be selected by the audience. The adjudication panel will select winners based on the following criteria:
- 50% communication
- 30% creativity and visual impact
- 20% technical quality
- The video submission should not infringe upon or violate any laws or any third-party rights, including, but not limited to, copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights and must not constitute material that would be considered libeling, defamatory, a privacy violation, tortious or a contract breach.
- Previous finalists who did not win the first-place award are eligible to compete again if the video submission is materially different from that of their previous submission.
- Award will be distributed as a one-time payment and applied to the student’s account in Quest.
