Award description:
Two scholarships, each valued at a maximum of $5,000, will be awarded annually to Black students entering into the Master of Mathematics for Teachers (MMT) program at the University of Waterloo. In order to be considered for the scholarship, candidates must teach Mathematics at a school in Canada or internationally. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an ability to impact the mathematics education of Black students. This scholarship is made possible by a donation from Scotiabank.

Value description:
The goal is to provide two $5,000 awards annually. The period of this defined term award will be from 2022 to 2025. The first selection will be made in June 2022 and the last in June 2025.
Eligibility & selection criteria:
- Black students who are entering the Master of Mathematics for Teachers program in the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo.
- Applicants must teach Mathematics at a school in Canada or internationally.
- Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an ability to impact the mathematics education of Black students.
- Apply for admission to the MMT and for the scholarship by June 15.
- A committee administered by the CEMC will select recipients annually in June based on both the applications for admission and scholarship.
