FAUW appoints members to dozens of university committees and other roles to ensure that faculty members’ voices are well represented at all levels of the University. The Nominating and Elections Committee works to find the best-suited people to represent FAUW members in these roles.
How it works
The Committee reviews all expressions of interest and/or nominations, and passes the list of candidates to the FAUW Board or president (depending on the role), who make the final decisions. The Committee may reach out to discuss the role with candidates during the process. The contents of all form submissions are confidential to the Committee, FAUW staff, and the FAUW Board.

Elections for the Board of Directors take place in March each year.

FAUW is seeking a volunteer to be a representative on the Sustainable Transportation Advisory Committee (formerly the Parking Advisory Committee) for a one year term (September 1, 2026-August 31, 2027).
This committee is being re-launched with a specific mandate to support the development and ongoing improvement of Sustainable Transportation strategies. Its work will prioritize improving access, balancing operational requirements with affordability, and advancing sustainable commuting options. The time commitment is estimated to be between 4-8 hours per term, and a report is requested for the Fall and Spring general meetings. Expressions of interest can be submitted to The Nominations and Elections Committee through their chair, Katy Fulfer (kfulfer@uwaterloo.ca)
The University has provided FAUW notice to open up negotiations around proposed changes that the University would like to make with respect to Pension & Benefits governance, including the Terms of Reference for the Board of Governors Pension Committee and the creation of an internal Benefits Management Committee. FAUW is seeking 3-5 members to form a Support Working Group to assist the Negotiating Team with research and preparation. The Support Working Group will conduct business electronically and meet regularly, minimum twice per week, with the Negotiations Team between August and November.

The FLAUW Force Working Group is exploring how to integrate Librarians and Archivists at Waterloo into FAUW and will make recommendations to the FAUW Board about how this integration would be reflected in the MOA.
There are two vacancies in this working group, for a 1-year term beginning July 1, 2026.
All interested members are encouraged to apply.
The Academic Freedom and Member Support Committee (AF&MS) helps faculty members with workplace problems.
These problems range from the application of University policy or the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), to concerns about tenure, promotion, and performance reviews.
Applications for this committee will be considered as they're received.
