FAUW works for better working conditions for faculty through both formal processes and informal advocacy efforts.
Collective bargaining at the University of Waterloo is handled differently from most post-secondary institutions in Ontario and Canada.
- Compensation settlements are negotiated every few years by three-person teams from each of the Faculty Association and the University.
- University policies that concern faculty terms and conditions of employment (Class F policies) are the responsibility of the Faculty Relations Committee (FRC). Members of the FAUW Board of Directors make up half of FRC; the other five members are appointed by the administration.
- All other matters related to the working conditions of our members are generally worked out informally by the Faculty Relations Committee, at the direction of the Board.
