The ceramics studio is located in East Campus Hall (ECH) 1223. The studio is approximately 1500 square feet, serving students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Ceramics studio is only for completing assigned Fine Arts Studio course work. Use of the Ceramics studio or its equipment for personal projects, financial gain, or unrelated courses is not allowed.

All requests for working space in the Ceramics studio must be brought to the Fine Arts Studio Manager or their delegate for consideration before access can be granted and access is on a term-by-term basis.  

Before a student is granted access to the Ceramic studio they must also complete the Silica Awareness (SO2037) training module on Learn.

During terms when FINE271, FINE272 or another officially scheduled course is running in the Ceramics studio, only students enrolled in those courses will have access. Other than students enrolled in FINE271 or FINE272, permission can only be granted to students that are currently enrolled in one of the following UW Fine Arts courses: FINE204/304/404 , FINE312, FINE327, FINE472, FINE473, FINE474, FINE475; or Waterloo’s Masters of Fine Arts Program.  

Our ceramic studio offers a comprehensive range of materials and equipment including:

  • Three 7cu ft computer controlled electric kilns
  • One 16 cu ft oval electric kiln
  • One 64 cu ft computer controlled electric car kiln
  • 24” w. Bailey slab roller
  • Glaze materials area 
  • Extruder
  • Ball mill
  • Clay mixer
  • Electric wheels
  • A Lightnin Mixer
  • Forklift

Note: Students can purchase clay and ceramic tools through the tool crib.
