The University of Waterloo is committed to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of the entire University community. The objective of this training module is to introduce employees to silica and the dangers of working with silica-containing materials.

University of Waterloo employees working where silica dust may be present.

By the end of this training, you will understand:

  • What silica is and where it is used

  • The health effects of breathing silica dust

  • The roles and responsibilities of the employer, supervisors and managers under the Silica Control Program

  • The engineering, administrative and PPE control measures used to mitigate the risk of exposure to silica
