Geography Top 50 Again

We did it again! Geography at the University of Waterloo improved on its global ranking in 2016 from 48 to 45, which was up from sitting in the top 51-100 by UK firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). This year the program jumps to 45.The QS World University Rankings is regarded as one of the most influential and widely observed international university rankings. QS ranks close to 700 universities worldwide in 36 disciplines. The University of Waterloo is listed amongst the top 200 universities globally for 20 of the 36 subjects evaluated.

“We are proud and excited with the continual upward trend in our ranking, which coincides with hard work and innovative research conducted by our faculty in Geography here at Waterloo. Being recognized internationally is a nice accolade for the faculty and our students. With 5 new faculty hires this year I think we’re on track for further gains.” said Dr. Johanna Wandel, department chair for Geography and Environmental Management.

The department comprises 32 faculty conducting research and teaching in critically important areas like climate change, earth systems science, food systems, tourism, and geomatics among other areas.
