Award description: 

A scholarship, valued at $4000, will be provided annually to a full-time doctoral student enrolled in their second year in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering who is conducting research in the areas of Polymer Engineering/Science. Selection will be based on academic achievement (minimum 80% cumulative average in their current program) combined with participation in extracurricular activities. Interested applicants should submit a description of the research they are conducting and a brief list of extracurricular activities (max 1 page) to the Department of Chemical Engineering Graduate Studies Office by August 31st of the award year. Selection of an eligible recipient will be made in the Fall term by the Chemical Engineering Graduate Studies Office. This fund is made possible by a generous donation from Patricia O’Driscoll in memory of her late husband Ken O’Driscoll who was a past Chair and professor in Chemical Engineering and Founding Director of the Institute for Polymer Research (IPR) at University of Waterloo.

Eligibility & selection criteria: 
  • Full-time doctoral students registered in their second year in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and conducting research in the area of Polymer Engineering/Science
  • Selection to be based on academic excellence (minimum 80% cumulative average in current program) combined with participation in extracurricular activities
  • If an eligible candidate from the Chemical Engineering department cannot be found in a particular year, the award will be carried forward to the next award year
  • Award is in addition to the minimum guaranteed funding and can be held in conjunction with other major awards
  • Applicants will be required to submit description of the research they are conducting and a brief list of extracurricular activities (max 1 page) to the Chemical Engineering Graduate Studies Office by August 31st in order to be considered for the award
  • A scholarship selection committee in the department of Chemical Engineering Graduate Studies Office, will review candidates and select recipients normally each Fall
