Meet Ben Ecclestone, a Systems Design Engineering PhD student designing a device that can image the light that is absorbed instead of the light that is reflected, which can be used in cancer diagnosis. He describes it as being able to see everything but the red in an apple.
Jack DeGooyer, an Electrical and Computer Engineering MASc student, is working on a camera for optical coherence tomography. If he can make this technology work properly, this would mean a more sensitive OCT camera used to diagnose cancers of the eye.
Meet Yashesh Dasari, a MASc student in the department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering who also took the Graduate Diploma (GDip) in Design Engineering option. During his time at Toyota, Yashesh was tasked to investigate the automotive coating process at TMMC's paint booth and conceptualize design refinements to improve the filtration efficiency.
“I have always been interested in tackling one of the world's wicked problems. I chose UWaterloo for my graduate degree because it is a water research hub and promotes interdisciplinary work, crucial for tackling water issues. Few institutions can give students this real-world experience, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have this type of training.”
