  1. Oct. 9, 2019OnBase upgrade - October 16

What is happening?  The OnBase document depository and database server are being migrated to Windows Server 2016 virtual machines.

Why is this happening? Microsoft’s extended support for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (currently used by the OnBase document depository and database server) is ending. Virtual machines must be upgraded before support ends in order to avoid security risks.

When is this happening? Wednesday, October 16 for the entire business day. Additional communications will be sent when the upgrade is complete.

What is the impact to OnBase users? OnBase will be unavailable during the upgrade window. Graduate applicant documents viewed through Quest will also be unavailable.

Questions or concerns? Please contact Colin Clark, colin.clark@uwaterloo.ca or ext. 41344.

  3. Oct. 7, 2019SharePoint user interface changes - October 7
With the removal of MySharePoint on October 1, the following options in the on-premises SharePoint user interface are currently not working:
    • The App Launcher (waffle icon in the top-left of SharePoint sites) menu options – OneDrive, Sites, and Newsfeed
    • The Public Profile links
    • The Follow option
What is happening? The following changes will be made to the App Launcher menu tonight:
    • OneDrive will be updated to point to the user’s Office 365 OneDrive
    • Sites will be updated to point to the user’s Office 365 account
Note: the redirect to Office 365 will only work for user’s that are part of the uwaterloo.ca Office 365 tenant and not for edu.uwaterloo.ca Office 365 tenant – as we can only define one hybrid host.
When is this happening? Monday, October 7 at 10:00 p.m.
