Abstract:

Spintronic is a rapidly growing field that benefits from the spin degrees of freedom in the electrons already flowing inside conventional electronic devices. Electron spin transport follows additional rules thus can be used to add new functionalities into existing devices. Here we take an overview on some of the interesting aspects in electron spin transport, focusing on the generation, processing, and detection of electron spins for information technology. By engineering functional materials and artificial structures, such as spin-filters and superlattices, we can effectively convert collective spin information into sizeable electronic signals. Moving a step further, we aim to explore even more exotic materials and structures towards spin-based logic operation and quantum information processing.
