The Institute for Quantum Computing congratulates faculty members Matteo Mariantoni and Christopher Wilson on receiving Early Researcher Awards.

John Milloy, Minister of Government Services and Government House Leader, announced the Ontario Research Fund and Early Researcher Awards on Friday, April 4 at the Perimeter Institute. The Early Research Awards program provides funding for new researchers working at publicly funded Ontario research centres.

Chris Wilson
Wilson researches quantum information, microwave quantum optics and nonlinear dynamics. Throughout his academic career, Wilson has been awarded numerous honours including the Wallark Prize for 2012 from the Royal Swedish Academy for his work on dynamical Casimir effect. Wilson is also an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and cross-appointed in the Department of Physics & Astronomy.

Matteo Mariantoni
Mariantoni explores superconducting quantum circuits for applications in quantum information processing. Mariantoni’s academic career has included several awards and grants including the 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and he was winner of the Physics World Top 10 Breakthroughs for 2011. He is also an assistant professor in Physics & Astronomy.

“Waterloo Region leads some of the most innovative research in this province. I am delighted to announce Ontario’s support for the ground-breaking, world-class research being conducted at three of our fine educational facilities right here in Waterloo Region. Their work will be instrumental to a dynamic and innovative business climate in Ontario, a climate that will draw investment and opportunity and build our province’s economic strength and competitive edge for generations to come,” said John Milloy, MPP, Kitchener-Centre.
