PhD students Deny Hamel and Sadegh Raeisi are recognized for outstanding research.
Deny Hamel and Sadegh Raeisi, PhD students at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), were among five students awarded the 2013 Special Graduate Scholarship from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. This scholarship, valued between $1,000 and $2,000, recognizes excellence in graduate research.
Hamel’s research focuses on investigating the implementation of quantum information using quantum optics. Specifically, he focuses on the generation of quantum entanglement between multiple photons. He studies under the direction of Kevin Resch and Thomas Jennewein.
Raeisi works on optimizing the implementations of quantum algorithms. Under Michele Mosca’s supervision, he collaborates with computer science and math students. His other projects include quantum simulation of Fermionic systems and macroscopic quantum effects.
We congratulate both Hamel and Raeisi on their achievement.
