The Institute for Quantum Computing is delighted to welcome its newest faculty member, Prof. Guo-Xing Miao.
Miao brings a wealth of experience and expertise in spintronics — a cutting-edge field crucial to the development of powerful quantum devices.
Prior to joining IQC, Miao completed his graduate and doctoral studies at Brown University in Providence, RI, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship and research scientist position at MIT.
Miao says he is excited to join the University of Waterloo at what he calls “a turning point and the most exciting time for quantum information science.”
“We are living in an era when quantum information is no longer just a fancy name — experimental implementation has already become a reality,” says Miao, a native of Shandong province, China. “It will lead to a revolution in information technology.”
Miao says he chose to join IQC because of “the close interaction between theorists and experimentalists” that happens in Waterloo.
In his research at IQC, Miao hopes to bridge the gap between classical devices and new quantum technologies, which will allow us to “enjoy the best of both worlds.”
