Tsen leads the Quantum Materials and Devices Lab where he is studying atomically thin quantum materials and developing novel quantum devices based on their exotic properties. He uses a combination of experimental techniques for materials characterization at the nanoscale, such as transmission electron microscopy, micro-optical spectroscopy and magnetotransport measurements, as well as state-of-the-art nanofabrication processes for device engineering.
The announcement is part of a larger investment by the Government of Ontario aimed at supporting research and innovative discoveries across Ontario. Each researcher will receive $140,000 over five years as well as an additional $50,000 from the University.
Previous winners of the Early Researcher Award at IQC include: Michal Bajcsy, Guo-Xing Miao, Na Young Kim, Michael Reimer, Kyung Choi, Vadim Makarov, Jonathan Baugh, Andrew Childs, Joseph Emerson, Thomas Jennewein, Adrian Lupascu, Matteo Mariantoni, Michele Mosca, Ashwin Nayak and Kevin Resch.
