President David Johnston and director Raymond Laflamme discuss the importance of philanthropy to IQC
On June 2, 2009, David Johnston, president of the University of Waterloo, sat down with IQC director Raymond Laflamme to discuss the field of quantum computing and the transformational role philanthropy can play in advancing this nascent frontier.
Laflamme, the Canada Research Chair in Quantum Information, is one of the world's leading authorities on quantum information processing, which promises to improve society through technological innovations. Video of the interview is now available on the IQC media page."
At IQC, great philanthropy has enabled us to do something that has never been done in Canada before." -- RAYMOND LAFLAMME, Director, Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC).
About IQC: Founded in 2002, the mission of the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) is to aggressively explore and advance the application of quantum mechanical systems to a vast array of relevant information processing techniques.
A part of the University of Waterloo, Waterloo Canada, IQC creates a truly unique environment fostering cutting-edge research and collaboration between researchers in the areas of computer, engineering, mathematical and physical sciences.
At the time of this release, IQC has 17 faculty members, 19 postdoctoral fellows and over 65 students and research assistants, as well as a support staff of 12.
