The HBO-I Foundation Visit

The HBO-I Foundation is an association of IT educators from a number of post-secondary institutions in the Netherlands. Twenty-five members of the foundation visited the University of Waterloo on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 to learn about IT education and career development so as to explore potential improvements to their pedagogy and infrastructure for IT education in the Netherlands. While on campus several people from various campus units and departments shared insight with the group: Co-op Education, WatPD, CEL, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Math and Engineering.

Waterloo International was proud to celebrate International Women's Day this year but hosting a table at the University's annual "International Women's Day Dinner 2019" at Federation Hall. We were happy to share the table with several of our campus partners; women leaders, stewards, and trailblazers of female international experience at the University.

Two videos were recently developed by a Waterloo staff member, Chérisse Mike, as a voluntary initiative.  As Chérisse explains,

With an ever increasing international population, more and more students are coming into contact with others who are culturally different from them. [These] videos debunk common misconceptions and stereotypes about some minorities which are represented on the UW campus. The audience can see common scenarios that may help them better interact with minorities.

Delegates from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited the university on Monday, January  14, 2019 to introduce their newly established Greater Bay Area International Institute for Innovation (GBA I3) and its plan to the UWaterloo senior management team.  Discussions also continued on the development of joint entrepreneurship programs between our universities.

Delegates from Shandong Provincial Education Department and the Shandong Normal University, in China, visited the University of Waterloo on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. The objectives of the visit were to review existing student exchange programs and to explore how to support universities international programs in Shandong province.

The China University of Petroleum Beijing visited The University of Waterloo campus on Monday, November 26, 2018 to meet with the Faculty of Science to review the existing 2+2 undergrad program, sign the MOU and discuss a detailed work plan to enlarge future recruitment numbers of students from CUPB.

Visit of Sichuan University

Delegates from Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, visited the university on Friday, November 16, 2018 to meet with UW leadership and faculties, gain mutual understanding and seek potential academic and research cooperation in fields like Liberal Arts, Math and Computer Science, Science and Engineering.

On November 13th and 14th, we hosted top Japanese University leaders for the "2018 Training Program for Top Management of University," funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan. The focus of their two-day agenda was to gain insight into university management and learn about co-operative education, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and commercialization, and international research.

Visit of Chinese University Leaders

Led by the Ministry of Education China, Chinese University Leaders visited the University for a two-day visit on Monday, November 5 and Tuesday, November 6, 2018.  The goal of the visit was to gain insight on university management and operations, especially in the areas of Co-operative education, Campus wellness, Teaching excellence and professional development, International and Industrial research, and Student innovation & entrepreneurship.
