This workshop will provide tips and practical experience on how to write an annotated bibliography, including using RefWorks to assist in its creation. A RefWorks account and basic knowledge of/experience with RefWorks is expected.

This workshop provides you with an overview of the Statistics Canada website, including effective techniques for uncovering the vast amount of statistical information available. By the end of this hands-on workshop, you will be able to:

search the Statistics Canada website efficiently, locate statistics by subject, search and retrieve data from CANSIM, and find current and historical Canadian Census statistics.

This session provides you with an overview of <odesi>, the platform for searching and downloading Statistics Canada datasets made available through the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI). Basic knowledge of data analysis is presumed. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

use <odesi> to locate and subset and/or download datasets, access and work with products available in Excel and B2020 format, and access survey documentation.
Wednesday, November 16, 2016 — 10:00 to 11:30 AM to 11:30 AM EST

The workshop is hands-on and explores using RefWorks, and any research database having citation-tracking capabilities, to:

1) maintain an accurate list of your own publications, and

2) track citations for your publications.

In this session, participants will be introduced to copyright and licensing and what rights and responsibilities they have when publishing their research. This session includes an introduction to:

Copyright and licensing as they apply to publication, Your rights as an author, and tips on how to keep them, Suggestions of helpful resources for publication, and Questionable publisher practices, and how to avoid them.

As part of GRADventure, this workshop is open to graduate students and post-docs only.
