The Library filled many new and vacant positions in 2016.
We would like to welcome and introduce the newest members of the Library team:
Gary Aitman
Library assistant, Library technology and facility services
Gary moved to Canada from Northeast England in 1998 and started working at the university in 1999. He moved into his position at the Library in May 2016. His position in facilities involves a wide variety of tasks, and dealing with Library staff on a daily basis, and he says it has been great getting to know everyone so far. Gary enjoys music and fitness, and likes to travel as much as possible.
Ryan Ball
Lending supervisor, Circulation desk training
Ryan came to the Library from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, on November 25, 2016. Ryan has an Honours BA in communication studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, and an MLIS from Western. Ryan supervises circulation desk staff and has a key role in delivering training. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys cooking, travelling, playing board games with friends, and collecting books and tattoos.
Courtney Collins
eResources access manager, Collection development
Courtney has worked at the university for almost 10 years, and joined the Library on September 19, 2016. She brings experience in data analysis and assessment, process management, and documentation creation. Courtney enjoys the variety of e-resource access issues she has to solve, and is working toward preventing them from happening. She has a more dangerous side outside of work - she's tried skydiving, and once worked as security at Canada's Wonderland.
Loc Do
Library clerk, Resource sharing
Loc started at the Library on November 28, 2016. Based at Dana Porter, she will be helping patrons at both campus locations. Outside of work she enjoys reading and watching basketball.
Danielle Farr
Library clerk, Resource sharing
Danielle started working at the Davis Centre Library on November 28, 2016. Outside of work she volunteers by doing science outreach to try and get children excited about science and technology with fun and interactive kits. Fittingly, her favourite spot on campus is the EIT building, as it's "full of dinosaur fossils, a museum of various rocks and minerals, and a neat mine tunnel."
Laura Girard
Library clerk, Collections
Laura has worked in the Library as a student shelver and on a co-op term in cataloguing, and brings a lot of experience to this position which she started on November 28, 2016. Outside of work, Laura enjoys reading, movies, hiking and playing guitar.
Melanie Hannaford
Office administrator, Library office
Melanie started in the Library on December 8, 2016. She comes from the Applied Health Sciences advancement team, and with a background in advertising, publishing and recruitment. She’s excited to work with everyone in the Library, supporting administrative and human resources functions. In her free time, Melanie loves spending time with her friends and family, and enjoys theatre, sports, movies, music and dancing.
Hannah Johnson
Library clerk, Resource sharing
Hannah has been with the Library as a student worker since November, 2011 and recently completed her undergraduate thesis; she started her current position on November 28, 2016. Hannah is fluent in French and outside of work she enjoys biking, knitting, reading and travelling.
Agnes Kordiasz
Weekend supervisor, Circulation
Over the years, Agnes has worked at all library locations - Dana Porter, Davis Centre, and Musagetes in Cambridge; her first day in this new role was November 14, 2016. Agnes is now based in the Davis Centre Library and is a member of the Circulation Training Committee. She loves to travel, and outside of work she watches movies, listens to music and plays piano to relax.
Kate Mercer
Librarian, Davis information services and resources
Kate comes to the Library from the School of Pharmacy where she started as a research assistant. Starting August 29, 2016, she has taken on the liaison assignments for Systems design engineering, Electrical and computer engineering, and Earth and environmental sciences. Kate loves "being able to work directly with faculty on a number of fascinating projects, and feeling like I'm making a difference in helping students learn to love research. I grew up in Stratford, so I divide my spare time between theatre and growing as many tomato plants as my yard will fit."
Heather Parker
Coordinator, Library accessibility services and AODA advisor
Heather started in the Library on December 1, 2016. She has a PhD in History and experience as a sessional instructor. Heather really enjoys working directly with students and helping them reach success in their studies. When she's not at work, she likes to spend time outdoors with family and friends, running, hiking, canoeing and camping.
Sara Perkins
Communications officer, Library office
Sara is on a temporary reassignment from her position of 10 years as Library associate at Musagetes Architecture Library in Cambridge. She moved into her new role on December 1, 2016, bringing experience in web communications, print journalism, copy editing and advocacy. Sara spends her free time going on road trips, gardening and collecting vintage items.
Carmen Peters
Library clerk, Collections
Carmen has held many positions in the Library, as a student employee and then on contract in circulation and cataloguing; she started her current position on November 28, 2016. Carmen is a practicing artist and has exhibited her work across Ontario. You may have seen some of her work on display in the Library during Freedom to Read Week.
Danielle Robichaud
Digital archivist, Special Collections & Archives
Danielle joined the Library on February 1, 2016, having previously worked as the Processing and digital projects archivist at the Henri J.M. Nouwen Archives and Research Collection at University of Toronto. She's working to improve the discoverability of archival holdings and access to digitized primary resources. Danielle is also behind the Wikipedia edit-a-thons at the Library. In her spare time she enjoys knitting... and editing Wikipedia.
Brandon Uhlman
Senior systems administrator and analyst, Digital initiatives
Brandon started with the Library July 5, 2016, largely administering and maintaining Voyager and Primo, but is also involved in a variety of projects - an aspect of the job he enjoys, along with the great people he works with. He also provided these self-described 'humanizing factoids': "I play clarinet in the Ceremonial Band of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, have a large and growing board game collection, and my wife and I are looking forward to welcoming our first child this summer!"
Eva Yang
Collection maintenance data analyst and supervisor, Circulation
Eva began in the Library on April 1, 2016 and is located within the Davis Centre Library. She graduated from the University of Toronto Management and IT program with a Bachelor of Business Administration with Distinction. Eva develops reports from library datasets for collections maintenance and ensures physical collections are in order for ease of patron use. Eva is an animal lover and when not at work she enjoys cooking and traveling.
