This Giving Tuesday we raised $16,203 for the University of Waterloo Library Fund thanks to 49 generous donors and senior library leaders who challenged us all to support students in developing the critical research skills needed to navigate a complex future.
Giving Tuesday is an annual event, celebrating the impact of charitable giving and harnessing the generosity of people around the world to bring about change in their communities. Each year at the Library we create a special opportunity for our community to give back in a meaningful way.
This year, nine library staff members rose to the challenge of matching gifts saying, “We have come together to provide this matching gift because we care deeply about the Library and the community it serves. Now more than ever, we need knowledge seekers with skill to discover and assess information — and take informed and meaningful action.”
The matching challenge was surpassed early in the day but generous donors kept the support coming in, allowing us to beat last year’s total, ending up at $11,703, in addition to the $4,500 matching donation.
All of this year’s donations will go towards the University of Waterloo Library Fund, which is designed to support programs that help equip students with key information assessment skills and provide opportunities for community and learning, online and in-person. The fund allows for flexible, responsive activity, allowing the Library to focus on what our students and users require in order to be successful.
Thank you to the alumni, staff, faculty and friends who contributed to this year’s Giving Tuesday success.
Missed Giving Tuesday? You can still support the Library.
