Kevin George

The Library recently welcomed Kevin George (BA '22) as our new associate director, Indigenous initiatives. Kevin is Fish Clan Potawatomie/Cree. He is a member of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation with relations at Fort McMurray 468 First Nation.

A newly created role, Jude Doble, associate university librarian, administration and strategic initiatives, says, “This role is critical to realizing our strategic objectives to actively decolonize the Library's activities, embed Indigenous ways of knowing in our services and research support, and engage with the growing community of Indigenous scholars across campus.”

Both professionally and within the Indigenous community, Kevin values a relational approach, incorporating traditional teachings and values throughout his work towards reconciliation, decolonization and indigenization.

Kevin looks forward to bringing new initiatives to the Library, both to our physical spaces as well as our virtual resources, such as smudging locations and Indigenous art to increase Indigenous representation and wellness in library spaces and expanding digital collections to include oral learning resources.
