Waterloo Library supports diversity, peace and freedom

Monday, January 30, 2017

A fundamental role of libraries is to support intellectual and personal freedoms; the University of Waterloo Library is committed to supporting those freedoms throughout our broad and diverse community. It is our mission to provide safe spaces, access to information, and to foster information literacy and intellectual curiosity. We value inclusion, accessibility, equity and cooperation.

The Library Executive Committee would like to invite all members of our community to join Library staff at the We Are All UWaterloo vigil and rally on Tuesday January 31, 2017 at 12 pm to mourn the victims in Quebec, and to stand in solidarity for peace and freedom. This event will take place on the Arts Quad in front of Dana Porter Library.

We echo President Feridun Hamdullahpur's statement on the US Executive Order on immigration and travel:

All of our students, faculty and staff, no matter where they come from, help to strengthen our community, bring new knowledge, talent and skills to higher education, research and innovation – to the benefit of all Canadians. At the University of Waterloo, we stand proudly for these values.
