What is Open Access, anyway?

Open Access Week is acknowledged during the last full week of October around the world to increase awareness of the open access movement. The Open Access movement seeks to promote free and open online access to academic information, such as research articles and data.

This month, co-op student Meray Philobbos interviewed Beth Namachchivaya, University Librarian to coincide with National Library Month, a celebration of the valuable role libraries play in the lives of Canadians.

A surprise donation from Alumni Weekend

The Library’s Special Collections & Archives (SCA) curates not only rare books, archives and materials related to the University’s teaching and research programmes, but it also houses the University of Waterloo Archives, containing official correspondence, publications, photographs, memorabilia and more.

Library Hosts Visiting Colleague from Turkey

Earlier in July, the Library was fortunate to host Barina Utkan, the Open Access and Institutional Archive, Head, from Middle East Technical University Library in Ankara, Turkey. With a background in mathematics, digitization and archives, Utkan was excited to learn more about open access, research data management and digital scholarship during her visit.
