We are pleased to welcome Effie Patelos as the new Architecture Librarian.
Effie holds a Masters of Information, Library & Information Science from University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Architecture (professional) from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the School of Architecture here at the University of Waterloo.
Prior to joining the University of Waterloo Library, Effie worked at the Shore + Moffat Library in the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, University of Toronto, at Concordia University Library, and as a cataloguer at the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal. Prior to getting her MI degree Effie worked as an architect for eight years.
Having been here since February, Effie has had some time to get to know the Library. When asked what she has enjoyed most about her new position she states: "It’s very hard to pick out one thing I’ve enjoyed about working at the Musagetes Library and the University of Waterloo so far, so I am not even going to try. First, my library colleagues, both in Cambridge, and on the main campus have been so supportive in welcoming, and helping me get reacquainted with the University of Waterloo. Also, everyone is so passionate and dedicated clearly showing that people are UW Libraries best resource for supporting research, access to collections, and information literacy. Second, I’m learning just as much from my reference interactions with faculty and students at the School of Architecture as they are learning from me. Every day I am introduced to a new research tool, architect, or issue in design education. Third, I feel very lucky to be working in such a well-designed space as the Musagetes Library. I feel so inspired by the beauty of my work environment."
Effie can be reached at 519-888-4567, ext. 27620 or by email.
