International Archives Day (IAD) is celebrated around the world to help people understand why it is important to support archives and the archival profession.  People can be confused about what an archives is and there is a misconception that the material we hold is for internal use only, is difficult to access and is only for historians.[1]  IAD helps to demystify archives and dispel these misconceptions.

In keeping with this year’s theme “Archives, Harmony and Friendship”, the University of Waterloo Library’s Special Collections & Archives department would like to invite members from the UW Community to meet with us and learn about some recent generous donations we received, including those from UW staff and faculty.  Staff will talk about the donation process from start to end and answer any questions you may have about the material we collect: it’s possible you have items in your attic or basement that you have never considered donating to an archives!

Come and meet us for an informal chat about the donation process and learn about what we do and do not collect!
