One of the final pieces of the new Centre for Mental Health Research expansion has been completed – the Research Resource Room.
As part of the lengthy expansion of the CMHR, it was decided that part of this new space would be developed to support the various studies being conducted at the Centre, both now and in the future. According to Dr. Ian Nicholson, Director of the CMHR, “By having designated space for research support, it is hoped that this will increase the visibility of the important role of research in the Centre.”
Started last fall, the CMHR expansion and renovations are nearing completion. When completed, the new CMHR will have two resident offices, two staff offices, a research resource room, a library/reading area, a new family therapy area (picture below), a new student computer work area, and a new group therapy room (picture below).
We are thrilled to announce that we have hired Dr. Ian Nicholson to be our new Director for the Centre for Mental Health Research. Dr. Nicholson is a clinical psychologist who has forged a renowned and distinguished career focusing on the advancement of professional psychology, with a particular interest in issues of training and professional advocacy.
Dr. Christine Purdon, Professor in the Department of Psychology and Executive Director of uWaterloo’s Centre for Mental Health Research (CMHR) recently invited MPP John Milloy to tour the CMHR facilities and speak with faculty, graduate students and staff about their mental health research, service and training mandates, and about mental health care in Ontario and across the country.
