William McNally was awarded the Best Overall Paper Award at the 2018 Conference on Vision and Intelligent Systems for his research "Action Recognition using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks and Compressed Spatio-Temporal Pose Encodings". Congratulations William!

Prof. John McPhee delivered the keynote address at the 2018 Asian Conference on Multibody Dynamics (ACMD) in China entitled "Multibody Dynamics and Model-Based Control: From Cars to Humans". The conference was hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in associated with the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM).

Dr. John McPhee and the Motion Research Group were recently highlighted in the Research Features Magazine for their advancements in Biomechatronic Systems Modelling, with applications toward autonomous and hybrid electric vehicles, rehabilitation and assistive robotics, aerospace systems, and sports engineering design.

Brok Laschowski MASc research in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering focuses on mathematical modelling and optimal control simulations of Paralympic sport movements for wheelchair design optimization. Read more on the University of Waterloo website

Brok Laschowski was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2015 International Sports Engineering Student Design Competition. Brok investigated the effect of different oar designs on rowing biomechanics using mathematical modelling and field experiments with Olympic athletes. This research was conducted in collaboration with the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario, Rowing Canada Aviron, and the University of Western Ontario.
