Biography

Dr. Darren Gigliozzi is an assistant clinical professor in the teaching stream at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Science with high distinction (2010), a Master of Science (2012) from the University of Toronto and a Doctor of Optometry (2019) from the University of Waterloo. Dr. Gigliozzi’s clinical experience includes working at various optometry practices throughout the Greater Toronto Area and serving as a sub-investigator for Cliantha Research, with a focus on clinical trials targeting ocular allergies and ocular surface disease. His commitment to academic excellence is reflected in his role as an adjunct clinical instructor, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Clinical Instructor in 2023. Currently, Dr. Gigliozzi supervises third- and fourth-year clinical students in the primary eye care clinic, fostering a collaborative learning environment and emphasizing best practices in patient care. He is dedicated to lifelong learning and continually integrates his broad clinical and research knowledge into student mentorship and clinical instruction. Dr. Gigliozzi has presented his research at leading conferences, including the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), Optometry Meeting, and Heart of America Eye Care Congress. He is actively pursuing his Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) designation, further contributing to advancements in vision science and optometric education.
