National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Hosted by the Office of Indigenous Relations.

September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The University of Waterloo Walk for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for the university campus community to connect, participate and learn about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.   

Agenda:

7:00am - Sunrise Ceremony

10:30am - Opening remarks and welcome

11:00am - Walk around Ring Road

11:45am - Feast, drumming, round dance 

The sunrise ceremony, opening ceremony and remarks and feast will take place on the B.C Matthews Hall (BMH) Green.  Please bring your drums and help us sing!

The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: a lecture by Rashid Khalidi

On Thursday, October 13 from 6:30pm to 9pm, Waterloo is hosting a hybrid lecture and panel discussion in support of Palestinian studies at UWaterloo.

Based on his 2020 book, The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonialism and Resistance 1917-2017, Professor Khalidi will lay out a framework for understanding the conflict over Palestine. Not a chronicle of victimization, nor a whitewash of the mistakes of Palestinian leaders, this talk re-evaluates the forces arrayed against the Palestinians, and offers an illuminating new view of a conflict t
hat continues to this day.

MCC UN Office 2022 Student Seminar 

Topic: Ukraine and armed conflicts: Pursuing justice and peace
Wednesday November 2 to Friday November 4, 2022.
It's an opportunity to meet like-minded people, tour the UN building, listen to presenters, and visit New York!

International Experience Awards

Numerous international experience award funds are available to University of Waterloo undergraduate students who participate in an international study, work, or volunteer experience. Award selection and values are based on a variety of factors such as type of experience, destination, financial need, academic success, extracurricular/volunteer involvement, motivation for the experience, etc..

Community Justice Initiatives: Agency Orientation

Have you taken a course that mentions Restorative Justice? Interested in volunteering?Community Justice Initiative's Agency Orientation is the first step toward becoming a volunteer. 
October 24th, at 7pm to 8pm, CJI is hosting a virtual training event. In this orientation, participants will learn about the history of CJI, as well as how they continue to evolve and expand the programs/services they offer.  They will share the pre-requisite training required for each program area, as well as current and emerging volunteer openings.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

The Government of Canada is hissing a full time position in Immigration, Refugees, and Canadian Citizenship - International Network. IRCC facilitates arrival of immigrants, provides protection to refugees, and offers programming to help newcomers settle in Canada. The work these programs does makes a difference economically, socially, and culturally. 

Applying adds you to a larger database where applicants will be selected on a rolling basis as positions arise. The closing application date is December 31, 2022.

PACS 390: Internship Course

The PACS internship allows you to engage in experiential learning with an organization that works on peace and conflict issues, in either a Canadian or international context. The course integrates theory and practice while facilitating the development of attitudes, strategies, skills, and knowledge that support work in a Peace and Conflict Studies related setting. If you are thinking about taking PACS 390 in the winter 2023, please reach out to the PACS Undergraduate Academic Advisor for more information.

Writing and Communication Centre

The Writing and Communication Centre is an academic support unit that supports students, staff, and faculty as they build communication excellence at the University of Waterloo.


Virtual Appointments:
Feeling stuck? We can help with brainstorming, planning, writing, and revision. Our instructors are experts in communicating in all disciplines, including digital, technical, and scientific writing and communication. 
Asynchronous Workshops
The Writing and Communication Centre offers workshops on a variety of communication-related topics throughout the term. Developed and presented by our writing and communication advisors, they are designed to help students engage with a particular topic through participation and practice. Like all of our services, workshops are free for University of Waterloo students and postdocs.
