Dana Anderson, FCIP, RPP, Partner MHBC

Dana Anderson is a professional planner and Partner with MHBC Planning with over 30 years of experience in both the private and public sectors. Dana is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planning and a Registered Professional Planner with OPPI.  Dana has an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University and is a UW Alumni, graduating with her Master’s degree in planning in 1990.

Dana has worked with various levels of government, developers and the public to manage change and build new communities throughout her planning career. She has successfully managed several complex redevelopment applications and master plan projects across Ontario.

Dana was the Planner in Residence at the School of Planning for 2018-2019 and continues to teach a studio course in the graduate program each fall.; PLAN 721 Advanced Planning Studio - Fall 2023 

Sean is a Registered Professional Planner with over 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including the former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto, City of Toronto, and York Region. In 2012 he established his own small firm, Hertel Planning, where he and his team advise provincial, municipal, and non-government clients, and select development firms.  His work and projects are focused on policy formulation and implementation for rapid transit corridors, station development and integration, housing, and social equity.

Sean has an undergraduate degree in Urban Studies from the University of Windsor and a Master in Environmental Studies from York University. In addition to teaching at Waterloo, Sean is also a Lecturer in the schools of planning at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and York University.

He is a fan of the Detroit Tigers but not Jane Jacobs, tells tourists to skip Toronto and head to Montreal, and makes the drive to Windsor just for the pizza (sorry, mom).

Yuri Langlois brings solid experience and expertise in urban design to the field of academia. Currently serving as Supervisor of Urban Design with the Region of Waterloo, Yuri has dedicated his career to shaping and inspiring sustainable and vibrant communities. 

Yuri's educational background is both comprehensive and interdisciplinary, reflecting a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. With a Diploma in Urban & Regional Planning Technician & GIS from Mohawk College and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies, Honours Planning Co-op from the University of Waterloo, Yuri laid a solid foundation in planning theory and practice. However, driven by a desire to challenge the status quo in the planning field, Yuri pursued advanced studies at University College London, UK, where he earned a Master of Science in Urban Design and Planning in 2020 from the Bartlett School of Planning. This international experience has provided Yuri with a global perspective on urban challenges and solutions, enriching his approach to teaching and research. 

Throughout his career, Yuri has had the privilege of working in various capacities, both in the public and private sectors, gaining valuable insights into the complexities of urban design. From working in municipal governments to private firms, Yuri continues to sharpen his skills in urban design, policy analysis, and community engagement. This diverse professional background equips Yuri with a nuanced understanding of real-world planning issues, which he brings into the classroom to inspire the next generation of planning professionals. 

Beyond his professional endeavors, Yuri is deeply committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle, reflecting a holistic approach to personal well-being and community sustainability. This passion for wellness informs Yuri's teaching philosophy, emphasizing the interconnectedness of physical environments, social dynamics, and mental health. 

As a lecturer, Yuri is dedicated to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and civic engagement among his students. By integrating theory with practical experience and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, Yuri aims to empower students to become agents of positive change in their communities.

Dr. Marcus Letourneau, MCIP, RPP, CAHP, CIPM I

Dr. Letourneau is President of M. R. Letourneau and Associates Inc., a specialized heritage and strategic planning firm focused on creative solutions for the management of cultural heritage resources. In addition to his teaching at Waterloo, he is also an Instructor for the Cultural Resource Management program at the University of Victoria. He co-teaches the facilities management course for the Ontario Museum Association. As of September 2023, he serves as a Subject Matter Expert/Course Author for Algonquin College’s new Bachelor of Applied Science in Building Conservation (launching 2025).  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of ICOMOS Canada, on the Board of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, as Chair of the Leeds and Thousand Islands Municipal Heritage Committee, and on both the Board of Directors for the Friends of Springfield House Complex and Leeds and Thousand Islands Historical Society. 

Marcus has a PhD in Cultural/Historical Geography (Queen’s University); an MA in Cultural Geopolitics (University of Western Ontario); a BA (Hons) in Geography with a History Minor (Queen’s University); a Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies (University of Waterloo); a Professional Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning (University of Victoria); a Certificate in Museum Studies (Ontario Museum Association); and training in Marine/Foreshore Archaeology. He also completed ICCROM/WHITRAP training in China on impact assessments for heritage. In 2022, he completed ICCROM/Athabasca University training on communication and teaching skills for conservation. He is a registered professional planner (MCIP, RPP), Professional Member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) and holds a CIPM I certification from the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection (IFCPP). He co-authored the second edition of Heritage Planning (Routledge) with Dr. Hal Kalman (2020).

Adrian is the Managing Partner of Johnston Litavski Ltd. and has  30 years experience in a range of settings. Having worked for private development interests, municipalities and over 20 years as a consultant, Adrian has extensive experience in project management, feasibility studies, policy planning, land development, & more. Prior to joining the firm in 2000, Adrian worked as the Land Use Planner for Parc Downsview Park Inc., and as the Senior Planner for the City of Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon Territory. 

Adrian graduated from the University of Waterloo’s School of Planning in 1995 and is a long-time supporter of the school. He is dedicated to giving back to the profession where he can.  He volunteered with the University of Waterloo Planning Alumni of Toronto (UWPAT) from 2004 to 2017 and was chair of that Committee in 2009 & 2010.  UWPAT’s focus is to raise funds for the School of Planning to support the Planner-In-Residence program and to offer entrance scholarships.  It’s primary fundraising event is the Annual Dinner which has become the “must attend” event for the GTA land development community.  Adrian is also a member of Lambda Alpha International, an international society of land economics professionals, and an active volunteer with the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI). He currently sits on the institute’s Complaint’s Committee. 

Personally, Adrian is a dedicated follower of urban issues and local politics. He finds inspiration in good urban design, architecture, and smart city-building – whether here at home or in his travels. Personal hobbies include a keen interest in history, aviation and the sciences paired with a love of fine wines and a good pint.
