“Invariant random subgroups and uniformly recurrent subgroups”
I will introduce the notions of invariant random subgroups and uniformly recurrent sub- groups. These structures are probabilistic and dynamical generalizations of the notion of a normal subgroup, using ideas from both algebra and analysis. They arise in the study of var- ious kinds of rigidity phenomena for representations of groups. I will discuss results of mine and others that make use of these ideas, and mention some open problems.
