“Representation extension and amalgamation in pomonoids”

I shall briefly discuss the history of the amalgamation problem for semigroups. I shall then cast this problem into the context of partially ordered monoids, briefly pomonoids. Differences between the ordered and unordered contexts will be highlighted with the help of examples. Finally I shall discuss the link of amalgamation with the (so called) representation extension properties (these properties were first used by T.E. Hall in the 1970s to study the amalgamation of semigroups). We shall also encounter S-posets and their tensor products.
