"Staying connected"

Coming back from our long break, we will begin with a highlight reel of the topics covered last term. Afterwards, we continue our study of affine schemes as topological spaces by focusing on three important topological properties that crop up in the study of schemes: connectedness, irreducibility, and (quasi)compactness.  In the process, we will get a healthy dose of examples, non-examples, and relationships between these notions in the context of affine schemes.  To wrap up, we introduce the notion of closed points of a topological space and characterize the closed points of an affine scheme.
