“Hyperfields for Tropical Geometry”
We will review the basic properties of hyperfields: fields in which the addition is allowed to be multi-valued. We will see how hyperfields provide a unifying framework for vector spaces, matroids, oriented matroids and valuated matroids. Lastly, we will see how hyperfields can be used to develop tropical geometry.
