"Periods II: Hodge Theory and K3 Surfaces"

Motivated by cohomological approach to parametrize isomorphism classes of elliptic curves with marking on the 1st singular cohomology, I will first review the relevant Hodge Theory of compact K\"ahler manifolds; this leads to the notion of Hodge structure of a given lattice (cohomology with cup products). Then, I will present the "lift" of the construction in elliptic curves to that in K3 surfaces, leading to the statement of Torelli type Theorems. If time remains, I will briefly talk about polarized K3 surfaces (which are in fact algebraic) and their locus in the period domain of all K3 surfaces. This and the previous talks could serve as a teaser for a possible topics course on K3 surfaces.

This seminar will be held jointly online and in person:
