"An Introduction to Gromov-Witten Invariants and Quantum Cohomology"

Gromov-Witten (GW) invariants have many applications in symplectic and algebraic geometry. These invariants count, in some sense, the number of pseudo-holomorphic curves satisfying certain conditions. This makes GW-invariants suitable to study problems in enumerative geometry. These invariants are also an important ingredient in the construction of the quantum cohomology of a symplectic manifold, which played a prominent role in the proof of the Arnold conjecture for weakly monotone symplectic manifolds. In this talk, I aim to give an introduction to the theory of Gromov-Witten invariants and the (small) quantum cohomology of a symplectic manifold. If time permits, I will mention the relation between quantum cohomology and the symplectic Floer cohomology.
