"Deformation theory of vector bundles and of Hitchin pairs"

In this talk, we explain how deformations of holomorphic vector bundles on a complex manifold $X$ are parametrised by the first \^v{C}ech cohomology group of the endomorphism bundle. In the case of Hitchin pairs, which consist of a holomorphic vector bundle together with a Higgs field taking values in a fixed bundle $L$ on $X$, the deformations are described in terms of the hypercohomology of a natural bicomplex of sheaves associated to the Hitchin pair.
